1. What is the ESAT Exam Format?

The ESAT consists of 3 multiple-choice modules of 40 minutes each (120 minutes total). Every candidate must take Mathematics 1 plus 2 additional modules specified by their target degree course:

Maths 1 (Compulsory)

27 questions / 40 mins

Maths 2

27 questions / 40 mins

Physics

27 questions / 40 mins

Chemistry

27 questions / 40 mins

2. Speed Strategy: ~88 Seconds Per Question

Because calculators are NOT allowed, the ESAT tests your mental arithmetic speed, algebraic manipulation, and estimation skills under strict time pressure.

Top Imperial Mentor Tip: Do not spend more than 2 minutes on any single question. Flag difficult multi-step physics/maths questions and return to them after securing the straightforward marks. There is NO negative marking for incorrect guesses!
